ChatterHigh Communications Inc. and ChatterHigh Communications US Inc. (“ChatterHigh”, “we”, or “us”) values and respects your privacy. We have prepared this privacy policy to explain the manner in which we collect, use and disclose personal information through our websites located at https://chatterhigh.com/ and https://chatterhigh.io/ (the “Website”), the ChatterHigh platform for online learning (the “Platform”), social media channels,  and other interactions with you. 

We offer the Platform to individuals who create an account and agree to our Terms as an individual user. You can also access our Platform on your own, or through your educational institution, school district or school board (“School”). We offer the Platform to representatives of a School who agree to our Terms to use with their students. If you are a student, or a parent/guardian of a student, your School may have provided you with information on how the School uses the Platform. If you are a representative of a School and using the Platform with your students, we rely on you to ensure you only use the Platform where you have received authorization from the School to use the Platform with your classroom.  

 COLLECTION AND USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION 

Visiting the Website: You do not have to register to visit or use our Website. However, we do collect some personal information when you visit our Website. Please see "Information about our Website," below, for detailed information regarding the personal information we collect when you visit and use our Website, and the choices you have with regards to that collection. 

Create an Account: In order to use the Platform you will be required to create an account and provide us with certain information.

Students

If you are a student using the Platform through your School, you or your School will provide us with certain information to set up your account, which may include your email address, first name and last name initial, user type, gender, ethnicity (U.S. only), country, state/province, school, and grade. Optional information you can provide includes language preference (Canada only), inclusion of faith-based post-secondary content, and if you wish to self-identify as Indigenous (Canada only). If your school provides us with your login information, they will receive login credentials (email address and password) from us that they will provide to you. You will be able to update your password for your account.

Teachers and other School representatives

If you are a representative of a School using the Platform with your students, you will provide us with certain information to create your account, such as your email address, first name and last name initial, user type, gender, ethnicity (U.S. only), indigenous status (Canada only), country, state/province, school, language preference (Canada only), and password. If your School is using the Platform as part of a contract, you may request that we delete the account of your students or staff at any time by contacting us, in which case all data will be anonymized. If you are using the Platform without a School contract, individuals users may request their accounts be deleted by contacting us. 

Individual users 

If you are using the Platform as an individual user (i.e. without direction from a School), we will collect certain information to create your account, such as your email address, first name and last name initial, user type, gender, ethnicity (only for users in the U.S), Indigenous status (optional for users in Canada only), country, state/province, school, grade, language preference (Canada only) and password. 

We use this information to create your account. We will never ask you for your password in any unsolicited communication (such as letters, phone calls or email messages). If you become aware of any unauthorized access to or use of your account, you are required to notify us immediately.

Using the Platform: When you use the Platform we will collect information about your engagement, progress and interaction with the platform in order to understand your preferences and provide you reports about your interests. We also collect your responses to surveys, quizzes, as well as scores and use this information to tailor the programs and content you see on the platform and to prepare reports for schools. We may also use this data to generate aggregate reports for partners who are interested in learning about engagement levels in certain program or topic areas, and who may have developed a module on the Platform. 

Discussion Forums: From time to time, you may be provided with the opportunity to submit posts on discussion forums on our Platform in order to have a moderated interaction with colleges and career organizations or other students. The forums may be accessible by other students in your class, or by other users. We recommend that students and users of the Platform do not submit any personal information on the discussion forums. Moderation is performed by a real human. Posts do not go live until they are approved.

Certificates, Bursaries and Competitions: You may be eligible to receive a certificate, bursary or prize upon completion of a module, course or contest. In order to generate the certificate, claim the bursary or deliver the prize, we will temporarily collect your first and last name in order to populate the document. Last names are not stored.  If you are enrolled as a user with a School, we may share this information with your School representative in order to facilitate the delivery of the certificate, bursary or prize. 

Download Resources from our Website: You may be required to provide certain information that identifies you when you request to download a resource available on our Website, such as the Career Exploration Guide. We require certain information, such as your first name, user type, role, province/state, country and email to provide you with the resource. 

Sign-up for our Communications: We may provide educators with the ability to sign-up to receive emails about ChatterHigh products and services, we collect your first and last name, email address, school, role and a text box for comments. Note that we do not collect or use any student data for such marketing purposes. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link included at the bottom of each email. Alternatively, you can opt-out of receiving email marketing communications by contacting us at the contact information provided in the “Contact Us” section below. Please note that you may continue to receive transactional or account-related communications from us. 

Book a Demo: When you sign up for a demo on our Website, you may be asked for information that identifies you, such as your first and last name, and email address. We may use this information to communicate with you about the demo. 

Social Media Sites: From time to time we may use our social media pages to provide information regarding competitions, course offerings or other updates. If you engage with us on our social media pages, we may collect information about your interaction with our pages to better understand our customers. You should use caution before posting or providing any personal information on social media sites.

Contact Us: When you contact us with a comment, question or complaint through email or telephone, you may be asked for information that identifies you, such as your name, email address, phone number and role along with additional information we need to help us promptly answer your question or respond to your comment.  We may retain this information to assist you in the future and to improve our customer service and service offerings.

SHARING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

We do not sell or disclose your personal information to third parties without your consent, except as set forth below or as required or permitted by law.

Schools: If you are enrolled to use the Platform through your School, we share information regarding your activities on the Platform with your teacher and/or School representative. We may also share information with Schools regarding a bursary, certificate or prize you are eligible to receive if required to facilitate delivery to you. 

Partners: The Platform contains quizzes and modules created by ChatterHigh or certain third parties, such as post-secondary institutions, government agencies, non-profits and industry organizations. If you complete a quiz or module created by such third party, we may share aggregated and anonymized reports with the institutions regarding engagement and interest in the content of the quiz or module.

Service Providers: Your personal information will be transferred (or otherwise made available) to certain third parties that provide services on our behalf. We use service providers to provide services such as hosting the Website and Platform, providing data storage, processing payments and managing email communications. Our service providers are only provided with the information they need to perform their designated functions and are not authorized to use or disclose personal information for their own marketing or other purposes. Our service providers are located in Canada.

Legal and Compliance: We and our service providers may provide your personal information in response to a search warrant to other legally valid inquiry or order, or to another organization for the purposes of investigating a breach of an agreement or contravention of law or detecting, suppressing or preventing fraud, or as otherwise may be required or permitted by applicable Canadian law or legal process, which may include lawful access by Canadian courts, law enforcement or other government authorities. Your personal information may also be disclosed where necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims and to investigate or prevent actual or suspected loss or harm to persons or property.

Sale of Business: We may transfer any information we have about you as an asset in connection with a proposed or completed merger, acquisition or sale (including transfers made as part of insolvency or bankruptcy proceedings) involving all or part of ChatterHigh or as part of a corporate reorganization or other change in corporate control.

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR WEBSITE AND PLATFORM

Visiting our Website: In general, you can visit our Website without telling us who you are or submitting any personal information. However, we collect the IP (Internet protocol) addresses of all visitors to our Website and other related information such as page requests, browser type, operating system and average time spent on our Website. We use this information to help us understand our Website activity and to monitor and improve our Website.

Cookies:  Our Website uses a technology called "cookies". A cookie is a tiny element of data that our Website sends to a user’s browser, which may then be stored on the user’s hard drive so that we can recognize the user’s computer or device when they return. You may set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie or to not accept certain cookies. However, if you decide not to accept cookies from our Website, you may not be able to take advantage of all of the Website features. 

Analytics: We may use a third party such as Google Analytics to help us gather and analyze information about the areas visited on the Website (such as the pages most read, time spent, search terms and other engagement data) in order to evaluate and improve the user experience and the Website. These third parties may use cookies and other tracking technologies. Third Party Links:  Our Website and Platform contains links to research and information contained on other websites that ChatterHigh does not own or operate. We provide third party links on our Platform in order to provide users with further information on specific programs or courses, or curricular-related topics. We review each third party link posted on the Platform to ensure the websites align with the curriculum and are from a reputable authority, such as a post-secondary institution, government website, labour market report, industry websites and certain non-profit websites. We provide links to students that have been provided by the applicable organization, or have been appropriately vetted by us.  These links are not intended as an endorsement of or referral to the linked websites. The linked websites have separate and independent privacy policies, notices and terms of use. We do not have any control over such websites, and therefore we have no responsibility or liability for the manner in which the organizations that operate such linked websites may collect, use or disclose, secure and otherwise treat personal information. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of every website you visit. 

SAFEGUARDS AND RETENTION

We have implemented reasonable administrative, technical and physical measures in an effort to safeguard the personal information in our custody and control against theft, loss and unauthorized access, use, modification and disclosure. We restrict access to personal information on a need-to-know basis to employees and authorized service providers who require access to fulfil their job requirements.

In general, we retain information associated with a student’s account unless the School or student request deletion. After that time, we will anonymize all personal information associated with the account. 

ACCESS TO INFORMATION

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to access, update and correct inaccuracies in your personal information in our custody or control. You can also request to delete the information associated with your account at any time. You may update your profile information by clicking on the “My Account” tab on the Platform. You may also request access, updating and corrections of inaccuracies in your personal information in our custody or control by emailing or writing to us at the contact information set out below. If you are requesting access to personal information under the control of your School, we may direct you to contact your School directly. We may request certain personal information for the purpose of verifying the identity of the individual seeking access to his or her personal information records. 

UPDATES TO THE PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this privacy policy periodically to reflect changes to our privacy practices. We encourage you to periodically review this page to ensure you are familiar with those changes. We will indicate at the top of this privacy policy when it was most recently updated.
